Here is a guide to what to wear during sorority recruitment. Please keep in mind every school is different but this is based on my experiences of going through the recruitment process!
- Greek Day
This is the first official day to kick off sorority recruitment. I know this can be a stressful process but I am here to be your big sister and guide you through the week. Greek day is usually the day you won’t be talking to any active members. You will meet up with your rush group and you’ll have a recruitment counselor. Some houses may have an open house but others may not. Panhellenic will most likely give out a specific shirt you will have to wear on this day. Since you are not talking to any active members, the dress code is a lot more relaxed. Majority of girls usually pair the shirt they are given with a pair of athletic shorts or an athletic skirt. To top it off you can pair the outfit with either tennis shoes (which is what I did) or a cute pair of sneakers of your choice. I recommend comfortable shoes on this day because you may have to do a lot of walking. I also recommend “shopping in your closet” to save money to spend on the other days of the week. Although, listed below are my favorite Amazon finds if you want some inspiration!
This skirt specifically comes in many options if you want to find one that matches the best to the t-shirt you are given!
- Philanthropy Days
The next two days are Philanthropy days one and two (keep in mind your school may have more or less). This will be another round that your University's Panhellenic council will provide the shirts for you. On these days I suggest pairing it with a cute skirt and stylish sneakers. Another tip that will make your outfit come together is finding a pair of statement earrings that match your skirt. Every sorority house I went to complimented me on this!
Listed below are links to my favorite finds. You should definitely find something that shows your own personal style though so feel free to shop whenever you desire!

- Sisterhood Days
At my school, sisterhood was two days long. Although, at some other schools you may only have 1 or even 3. So pay attention to how many dresses you will need. This is the first day you will not be provided a shirt from Panhellenic. This is the day you can truly let your style show. I personally recommend wearing dresses these days and pairing them with a pair of wedges. This day is more of a flowy and sundress vibe.
It is important that your dress is decently modest. You don’t want your dress to be too short, too low cut, or have any cut-outs in it.
- Preference Day
Preference day is the day you talk to two sorority houses and decide where you want to end up getting a bid card from. This is the day you want to be the “fanciest” for. It is important to look good to make your last official impression on the sorority you want to run home to. Picking out a nice dress with a good pair of heels would work perfectly. I would make sure you don’t pick out a pair of heels that are too high because you will most likely walk funny in them. Make sure they are a good comfortable pair of heels.
- Bid Day
Congratulations, you finally made it to bid day! This is the day you will receive your bid card and be able to run home. This day may or may not go your way but always remember to keep a positive mindset. You will end up where you are meant to be! With that being said, let's get onto the clothing. This is another day that is very laid back. Majority of girls wear a pair of athletic shorts, an athletic tank top, and either tennis shoes or a cute pair of sneakers. Once you run home you will be given an oversized jersey to wear with your new sorority’s greek letters so what you wear doesn’t really matter.
Just remember you will end up where you’re meant to be. This isn’t a competition. When it comes time to rank you will know where you want to run home to. I wish you the best of luck and enjoy this time and experience.
