Retirement gift ideas for dad: No matter how your dad spends his retirement, I’ve got you covered.
Do you guys want to know the best retirement gift ideas for dad? Well, if you don’t, too bad! I’m going to tell you anyways. 🙂
I know no one asked, but I’ve rounded up some wonderful retirement gift ideas for dad. I must admit, I am definitely a retirement gift guide expert, so when I said I got you covered, I wasn’t lying.
Don’t forget to save this article, so you can come back to it when you’re ready to do some online shopping for your retired dad.
And…don’t forget to drink every time I said some variation of “this will make your dad’s retirement 1000X better.” LOL
Retirement Gift Ideas For Dad
PSA: Okay, a fun little fact about dads that I think a lot of us forget is that they love to learn new things. At least that’s the case with my dad, and I’m assuming it’s the case with your dad too.
I can’t think of a more perfect way to have a productive retirement. Can you?
2. Massage Seat
If there’s one thing to know about retired dads, it’s that they love relaxing.
So, you can’t tell me that a massage seat isn’t a great retirement gift idea for dads.
The way this thing massages is so satisfying. I can already tell it’s going to be a good retirement for your favorite retired person!
Can someone tell me why dads love Hawaiian shirts? I seriously do not know who our dads would be without them tbh.
Even if you don’t think your dad is crazy about jam, you’re going to want to check this gift out immediately. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard “I didn’t think my dad was a big jam fan, but he loves Bonne Maman Jams)!”
It really does taste like omg soo goooood homemade jam!
We love a good coffee mug, and a Yeti coffee mug is actually the best. I am not kidding.
And I know the question is going to come up, and yes this mug will keep your dad’s coffee warm for omg so many hours. I can’t make this up.
6. Water Bottle
Stop scrolling bc your dad probably really needs this.
I mean, I know your dad probably already has a water bottle, but does he have a Yeti Water Bottle?
A Yeti water bottle isn’t just an average bottle. I have it, and I can confirm that it’s the superior water bottle. Just trust me, no other water bottle compares7. Golf Club
Don’t ask dads if they want to play golf during their retirement. The answer is always a yes.
Or, you can purchase a golf club grip, which is a great addition to the golf club.
8. Golf Balls
But you already knew I was going to say golf balls. I mean, we’ve never seen something made for retired dads more than golf gifts, right?
You can even get him ones with a funny personalized message like “If found, please return to (insert your dad’s name)". It implies that they hit the golf ball into the woods or something.
Obviously, if you have a big budget, you can pair this gift with the golf club and maybe even the golf club grip from above. I think this would be the greatest retirement gift ever, and your dad definitely deserves it for his years of hard work.
9. Gift Set
I know you’re asking yourself why, and the reason being is because this gift set has stainless steel grill utensils. I know, soo good!
Truly the right gift for dads who are already talking about what they’re going to grill at the next get together.
Or maybe even the right gift for dads who enjoy spending time doing a new hobby. You read that right. Our dads consider grilling a hobby! Lol.10. Audio Sunglasses
When I say dads want to be hip, this is what I mean.
I’m not going to lie…I sometimes question whether or not our dads have any business knowing that audio sunglasses exist….butttt they’re supposed to be great for listening to music or audiobooks.
If you get these for your dad, please let me know how he likes them!
Such an easy way to support the national parks too!
12. Pajamas
When it’s your father’s retirement, it may look like cozy pajamas and a beer on the couch at 3 pm on a Wednesday.
By the way, the girlies saying “my dad can’t just lounge in pajamas all day” aren’t the vibe so bye! Lmao!
Seriously though, I really can’t imagine a dad being upset about receiving this during his new chapter in life.
13. Took Kit
I’m not gonna lie, this totally sounds like my dad rn.
I think it’s safe to say that virtually every dad has a passion for home improvement projects (my dad’s “passion” for for home improvement projects is actually an obsession, so yeah).
Whether it’s a passion or obsession, our dads will greatly appreciate a good tool kit, obviously.
14. Rain Showerhead
For the wine-obsessed dad, I think an electric wine opener is so cool, sleek, and honestly beautiful.
Check it out here. See what I mean? Seriously one of the most beautiful retirement gifts ever.
16. Yeti Cooler
I know this excellent retirement gift may make you take a second mortgage out on your home (meaning your wallet is already crying), but it’s totally worth it.
As if you don’t already know why a Yeti Cool is so awesome, I’ll tell you just in case. It’s super high-quality (obvi) and totally travel-friendly.
Best part, though, is that it comes in many different colors! What more could a retired dad ask for?
17. Ugg Slippers
I know it might seem like such a weird concept, but I’m a firm believer that every dad needs these slippers.
There’s really no excuse for your dad to not like these bc they’re so comfy!
18. Record Player
If you’re anything like me, you may be confused as to why Tik Tok is so darn adamant that you buy a record player for your dad. I mean, if this doesn’t stop coming across my fyp, I’ll have to get my dad one for sure.
While it’s quite spendy, this gift will probably last a lifetime (and he’ll have fun with it until the day he dies). As a retired man, he’ll definitely have plenty of time to use it!
19. Portable Hammock
Okay, but like why is a portable hammock such a dad thing?
I swear it’s the only thing that dads would really want as a retirement gift (and it’s not crazy expensive).
It’s great for your outdoorsy dad who spends a lot of time at the beach or maybe just chillin’ in his backyard.
Your dad definitely won’t realize how much he loves this until he actually uses it.
20. Suitcase
If your dad is still traveling with a crusty suitcase, can he stop? Please?!?!
It is definitely ready for when your dad wants to go on his next adventure.
21. Whiskey Decanter
If there’s one thing about me, it’s that I’m going to tell my girlies what they need to know:
Please get your dad this and report back!
22. Neck Pillow
Does your dad have that condition where he can’t sleep on the plane like ever?
23. Weighted Blanket
No, but like I get what you guys are saying.
Let me just say that our dad’s life will forever be changed bc this has been shown to reduce anxiety, improve sleep, and basically make his retirement 1000X better. What dad wouldn’t want that?
24. Kindle
Okay, but this is amazing! Does your dad’s idea of retirement include reading many interesting books?
Basically, a kindle is what retired dads *with a big TBR* are all about.
I’m totally getting one for my dad when he retires, but if he doesn’t use it, I'll be re-gifting it for myself. Lol
25. Reading Light
Since he’ll be able to read a good book while your mom is sleeping, it will definitely leave your dad asking “where has this thing been all of my life.”
It’s also the perfect solution if your dad feels kind of obnoxious for using his overhead light during a flight. My besties with coffee lovin’ dads, where you at?
A Nespresso Machine is simply amazing.
I got it as a Christmas gift for my dad who is a HUGE coffee lover, and he tells me all of the time that it makes the best coffee EVER.
27. Good Movie
Bold reminder: Every dad loves a good movie!
So, whoever gave the advice of giving dads a good movie as a retirement gift, thank you bc I will for sure be doing this, and you should too!
It won’t disappoint.
28. Theragun
Obviously, I’m no doctor, so I’m really not sure what all this thing does, but I do know it’s supposed to relieve muscle pain, promote muscle repair/recovery, and it might even clean your dad’s house….say what??!!
29. iPad
A basic tablet is great, but has your dad tried an iPad yet?
He won’t go back.
Obviously, it’s honestly one of my favorite splurge gifts. I wouldn’t steer you wrong, babes.
30. Apple Watch
Apple products are known to be amazing, and I will always trust them for being amazing gifts for a retired man.
31. Fitbit Charge
If he’s not really an Apple dad, don’t worry, we forgive him, haha.
But seriously, a Fitbit Charge is a great alternative to an Apple Watch.
While YOU will love that a Fitbit Charge is much more affordable than an Apple Watch, HE will love its simple design and long battery life.
32. Truff Hot Sauce
Does your dad know that there are other hot sauces besides tabasco? Bc yeah there is.
Here’s an idea of what kind of sauces the company offers: Truff Original Hot Sauce, Truff White Hot Sauce, and Truff Hotter Hot Sauce.
33. Ninja Creami
An ice cream maker can easily be seen as a “I’ve got too much time on my hands gift,” but retired dads won’t be mad about it because let’s be honest, they DO have too much time on their hands.
Everyone has said it, but the Ninja Creami is truly the best ice cream maker hands down.
Many reviews said that you do have to freeze the ice cream container for 24 hours before making ice cream, but if that’s the only problem, I don’t see a problem!
I do, however, see this as the perfect present because who knows…making ice cream may just become one of your dad’s new hobbies!
34. Squatty Potty
You can also throw in some poo-pourri bc why the hell not? If anything, it will give him a good laugh!
Prob my favorite funny retirement gift. Definitely the best money you’ll ever spend in your years spent on this earth!
If you’ve never bought your dad something like this, sprint to buy it IMMEDIATELY omg!!! The only thing is that I’m not sure I would give this gift at a retirement party though, haha.
I seriously love this more than I can explain. If you google “the benefits of an electric tea kettle,” I would bet 99% of the time that “it heats up in minutes” is one of the many pros.
It really is the best feeling when someone you love receives a fancy wine every month that’s uniquely curated from wine professionals.
Can you imagine a life where beer doesn’t make dads happy? I simply cannot.
When he receives this gift, your dad may even admit that he likes beer much better than tequila! *gasp*
38. Solo Stove
A solo stove is the perfect retirement gift if your dad is outdoorsy but not really outdoorsy, haha.
But seriously, your dad will absolutely love this. Specially if he’s the type of dad who enjoys drinking a beer on the patio at night sometimes.
39. Caviar Gift Set
Okay, honest answer pls, but is your dad low key boujee?
If this is your dad’s vibe, I’m convinced he lives a lovely life. He honestly kind of reminds me of my dad’s retiree friend.
Either way, I can totally see him NOT waiting for a special occasion to use this!
40. Funny Coffee Mug
A funny coffee mug with candy, a gift card, and maybe even fake business cards (if you’re really trying to be funny) inside is such a funny gift idea, and your dad will have a hard time NOT laughing.
41. Binoculars
42. Whiskey Stones
Is this the solution for keeping your dad’s whisky cold?
I don’t know why our dads haven’t tried these, but drinking whiskey with whiskey stones is the most refreshing way to relax after years of service.
43. Whiskey Glasses
Best retirement gift idea for dad? It’s got my vote!
Whisky glasses are honestly so good on their own that they don’t even need to be personalized (but they always need to be personalized).44. Armchair Caddy
One of the things that dads love to do during retirement is watch TV (it’s a tough job but someone’s gotta do it).
I highly recommend an armchair caddy if your dad has a serious case of being an unbothered KING.
I am not kidding. He seriously needed this like yesterday bc it can store all of the things (remote, book, snacks, glasses, iPad, ect).
I promise that he’ll love having easy access to his favorite things while watching Seinfeld, Law & Order, or another dad show. Ohhh…good times!! LOL.
45. Ancestry Kit
I think this may be a little controversial, but let me just say that a retirement without researching family history is a retirement wasted.
Don’t come for me. I know that’s a bold statement.
But my point is, what better day than today to get your dad an ancestry kit?!!?
One of the most unique gifts you can get your dad if I do say so myself, and there’s no better time to get it!
47. Baseball Cap
Looking for the perfect present that your dad will wear on repeat during his golden years?
Good news!
A baseball cap is the answer and by that I mean the perfect gift!
Does your dad like having fun outdoors?
Basically, he’ll love it when he’s doing pretty much anything outdoors such as camping, hunting, or skiing.
49. Drone
My girlies who are drinking a cup of coffee or wine while reading this….I’m going to suggest you put it down to screenshot this one with both hands. Lol.
Certainly, you may be thinking that this little thing is soo expensive, and I completely agree with you. But, it’s seriously the coolest thing I’ve seen on the internet this year, and I know your dad will love getting some cool pics with it!
51. Dad Jokes Book
A Dad Jokes Book is definitely the little thing that your fun lovin’ dad wants in his life.
You know those things in life that make dads feel…well cooler? Well for many dads it’s Lululemon.
I never (ever) thought I would recommend this as a retirement gift idea for dad, but when I asked my friends’ dads (who is retired btw) to share his favorite gift idea, lululemon joggers was a suggestion that came up. No joke.
Lululemon joggers will for sure make your dad’s retirement sooooo much better bc they’re trendy AND comfy. Your dad will essentially be living in this.
53. Watch Box
I obviously recommend this if your dad considers owning multiple watches at retired age a flex.
I say make everything extra bc he only retires once, so be sure to get his name or initials engraved on the wooden box or even the clear glass.
Omg I love personalized retirement gifts like this.
A few of my family members actually have this, and it’s honestly such a great way to display cute family pics. Such a special gift too.
Key to a happy retirement? An outdoor pizza oven.
Because is it just me or does pizza taste sooo much better when it’s made in this thing? If you’ve never had pizza that was cooked in an outdoor pizza oven, I am so sorry!
Basically let’s just say that an outdoor pizza oven will live up to your dad’s expectations 100%. I’ve never heard anyone say they didn’t like it.
56. Leather Journal
57. Fountain Pen
The shape of this makes a huge difference when storing left over pizza. Basically, it will save so much space in the fridge.
If you need a fun gift for the foodie side of your dad, food tours are pretty dang tough to beat.
I ain’t gonna lie, a smart bird feeder isn’t a super practical gift, but it’s pretty entertaining. He’ll never be over the endless hours of bird-watching fun….omg.
60. Flashlight
I just know that your dad will retire happy if you get him a new flashlight.
There’s really no way he wouldn’t find a use for it.
61. Air Fryer
If you’re not yet convinced about why an air fryer is a great idea, check out the reviews on Amazon bc they honestly speak for themselves.
Does your dad still have the same jacket he wore when you were growing up?
Side note: I know some people think that clothing is a boring gift for dads; however, I am not that person.
63. Beach Hat
64. Swim Trunks
If you’re dad isn’t really a pool dad, it’s okay, he’s going to be one during retirement (trust me), so swim trunks is obviously a non-negotiable.
I’m going to be honest, though. It can be really hard to find cool swimwear for your retired dad. Like ridiculously hard.
For this reason, I literally don’t buy any men’s swimwear without reading hundreds of reviews.
Not that anyone asked, but my toxic trait is literally being so excited to get a pool recliner chair for my dad when he retires because this is soooo the right present for him!
66. Drink Holder
Fact: All dads think that a beer taste 100X better in a drink holder.
If this can low key save dads from neck and back pain during his retirement years, sign our dads up!
Okay, I just have to say that I honestly didn’t think our dads could be so old to have neck and back pain, but I guess they are.
But back to my retirement gift idea: For my girlies who just rolled their eyes and said to themselves “yeah right, it won’t low key save my dad from anything,” you’re right.
A neck and back massager will high key save him. LOL.
68. Projector
Okay, I’m going to go ahead and say it, a projector is so much better than a tv honestly. It’s amazing for outdoor movies and watching Netflix.
As long as your dad puts it on a shelf or something and then face it toward a blank wall, I promise it won’t be a fun retirement for your dad without this.
69. Hand Massager
In fact, if there is one retirement gift idea for dad that you need to save from my page (seriously screenshot this rn or copy and paste this into your notes), it needs to be this one.
Let me tell you that a hand massager is a game changer if your dad has arthritis or carpel tunnel or even if he doesn’t. It’s honestly perfect if your dad has any kind of hand pain bc it simply feels heavenly.
Truthfully it’s hard to explain what it really feels like until you try it. But trust me on this one. Your dad will never be the same after using this.
Basically, every handyman dad needs a good hand cream, and Working Hands will be their new favorite.
Whenever they feel like being extra kind to themselves during retirement, this stuff will literally heal his cracked hands overnight.
It’s pure magic (these will be his words not mine)!
71. Apple AirPods
I think everyone with AirPods can agree that losing them is a different type of pain, and we obviously don’t want our dads to experience heartache during retirement.
Can you relate?
But seriously, when your dad needs someone to hold the flashlight, and you’re not around, flashlight gloves will solve basically all of his problems. I swear your dad couldn’t love this more even if he tried. Not me being super excited for this retirement gift idea for dad right here. For all of my besties looking for a real easy retirement gift idea for dad….this is about as easy as it gets.
Nothing makes dads smile quite like a wallet filled with gift cards to his favorite places. It may seem odd to fill the wallet with gift cards instead of money but TRUST ME on this. There truly isn’t a better idea for us lazy girls.
76. Vacation
Because I know your dad can’t wait to be drinking a beer on the beach, eating way too much delicious food under a palm tree, and simply relaxing on a tropical island. Welcome to the good life, dad.
So, I can pretty much guarantee that your dad’s dopamine levels will be dangerously high if you get him a fun vacation package.
Or, you can give your dad an AirBnb Gift Card if you think he’ll appreciate the choice of location.
77. Massage
78. Snacks
Also, if your dad had to choose one snack to have for his entire retirement, what would he choose? I honestly don’t know what my dad would pick. I’m sure it would be a pretty hard decision.
Whether you plan on getting him beef jerky, candy, trail mix, or another dad snack, I seriously think it would be so cute if you put everything in a gift box.
If a MINI BAR IN A JAR doesn’t scream retirement, then our dads are built different. Just sayin’.
I can honestly take zero credit for unique retirement gifts like this one, but it’s such a hit bc the mini alcohol taste a lot like “I’m not going to work ever again!” and “I’m not available Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesday, Thursdays, Fridays, or Saturdays.”
Some things are too good NOT to be true. 🙂
80. Bake Goods
For all of my girlies looking for a cheap but thoughtful retirement gift, baked goods are just so much yum!
I feel like dads with a sweet tooth will love this. I know my dad would! It’s really the thought that counts, besties 🙂
81. Food Tours
If you need a fun gift for the foodie side of your dad, food tours are pretty dang tough to beat.
82. Experience Gifts
My motto for buying gifts for my dad: What is something that he would use but isn’t willing to splurge a bit of money on?
I love the idea of buying him experience gifts not only because he may not buy this for himself but also because they can make him feel young again if you give him the right ones.
Depending on your dad’s interests, the best choices are: Go-karting, indoor rock climbing, jet skiing, quad biking, zoo, aquarium, ect.
I seriously can’t think of a better way to help him feel young!
